A high alert was sounded on Sunday for several districts across Punjab, including Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Nawanshahr, Ropar, Mohali, Amritsar and Tarn Taran, as heavy rainfall in the catchment areas of the Bhakra Dam reservoir, the Sutlej, Beas and Ravi rivers and several smaller rivulets led to a flood-like situation in the region.
