KATIE BOULTER admitted she had played "not to lose and rather than to win" after crashing out of the US Open to the world No.74.

The British No.1 told her team "Everything's horrendous today" as she went down 7-5 7-5 to Jessica Bouzas Maneiro (below) on Court 5.

The No.31 seed had her service broken five times and said she lacked aggression and the right attitude on the big points.

The Spanish baseliner had never won a match at the US Open before this week.

"You get caught between not trying to be a charity and making mistakes," she said.
