THE head of Britain's police chiefs says the far-right thugs behind the rioting could strike again in the coming days.

Gavin Stephens, chairman of the National Police Chiefs' Council, said: "We're very focused on the weekend. There are many potential events still being advertised and circulated online.

"Those intent on violence and disruption have not gone away."

With many offenders already sentenced, he added: "They have certainly been deterred.

"But there's no complacency at all in our minds that we need to be prepared for the days and particularly the weekend ahead."

The Prime Minister last night chaired a third emergency Cobra meeting with police chiefs and top ministers. Keir Starmer said rioters had been deterred by the ramped-up police numbers and swift sentencing implemented.
