'Surrounded by dying people and giving comfort to those whose loved ones could not'

HARROWING recollections about the pandemic from thousands of NHS staff and patients have been published by the Covid-19 Inquiry.

The stories include exhausted hospital workers being "surrounded by people dying" and staying with patients to comfort them in their final moments when loved ones were not allowed to.

Publication of the experiences of 32,000 people reveals patients were told over the phone that they were going to die because operations could not be carried out due to pandemic rules.
