Destiny 2 is an ongoing notebook that, over the years, has been filled in by many different hands – some with wildly diverging philosophies about where to go and what to do. You can write the next chapter, but it’s harder to go back and correct what’s already been written. Bungie’s big project for this year of the game is to attempt to do just that – by reworking all of the Light-based elemental powers that Guardians can wield.
The Witch Queen launched with Void 3.0, which replaced the old preset subclass selections with a more customisable system based around a series of keywords – thematic representations of that element that can be augmented.

Broadly, Void 3.0 was a success – the codification of keywords like Devour, which restores health on kill, and Volatile, which causes enemies to explode, led to some powerful combinations for both survivability and damage. Despite this, there were complaints. Some Hunter players in particular felt like they were being forced to focus on the Invisibility keyword – a powerful playstyle with great endgame potential, but one that didn’t always vibe with players’ fantasy of the subclass.
Now, with Season of the Haunted, the Solar 3.0 rework has arrived. This time it’s the Warlocks who are crying.
