Growing up, I always envisioned myself getting married. Like many little girls, I dreamt about the type of dress I would wear as I walked down the aisle, the flowers I would choose to adorn the church, and the colours I’d choose for bridesmaids. But it wasn’t just the big white wedding I wanted, my dreams extended far beyond the ‘I do’s’. I wanted to be a wife.

The thought of having someone who cared for me unconditionally, to create a family with and to share every aspect of my life with felt magical. So when I married in 1989, I’d never been happier. The life I had dreamt of since I was little was becoming a reality.
