Despite Dame Joan Collins turning 91 this week, the age-defying star is still just as in demand as ever and shows no signs of slowing down. She’s just wrapped up filming in the Czech Republic for her latest movie role and is in attendance at a glitzy awards bash in London when Woman’s Own catches up with her for an interview.
The five-times married actor is accompanied this evening by her husband, Hollywood producer Percy Gibson, who she’s been married to since 2002 and is 32 years her junior. Here, Joan fills us in on why she thinks her glittering career spanning over an incredible seven decades is purely down to ‘luck’, her best piece of advice and why she’s done with birthdays…
Hi Joan! What has been your greatest highlight in showbiz?
Probably the success of Dynasty [she played vampish businesswoman Alexis Carrington on the glossy US soap opera from 1981-1989], I was lucky in my career. It was sort of a bit like falling off a log – it was just very easy, and I was very lucky!
I went to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art [RADA] in London when I was 15 years old, then I got a job modelling, and I was signed by J. Arthur Rank, then 20th Century Fox.
