‘HE SAYS WHAT COMES INTO HIS HEAD’
Richard Madeley has always been an outspoken character, which is probably why he was chosen as a stand-in presenter to replace controversial Piers Morgan when he sensationally quit Good Morning Britain in 2021. Richard, 67, had been part of the GMB family since 2017, and after Piers’ exit he became a regular fixture alongside Susanna Reid. But while he’s never been one to mince his words, it seems viewers’ patience is wearing increasingly thin. During the first show back after Christmas, the broadcaster told weather presenter Laura Tobin that she’d gained weight, stating, ‘You’ve put on a lot of weight with the lack of exercise, haven’t you?’ Susanna quickly jumped to defend Laura, saying, ‘You wouldn’t be the only one, Laura, because I ate for Britain.’ She added that Richard’s New Year’s resolution should be to ‘try and not offend Laura’. Laura then sarcastically said to Richard, ‘I’m just going to take a long waddle across the studio later,’ to which he replied, ‘We’re not getting on this morning, are we?’
