Safety is of utmost concern to all of us in the maritime industry, and this took on an added dimension with the arrival of the Coronavirus Disease 2019. The feature article examines how technology can empower safety, while Port & Starboard delves into how artificial intelligence and big data can improve safety and efficiency in the seas. Interviews with Ms Sandra Welch, former Chief Operating Officer of Sailors’ Society; and Mr Abhishek Chawla, the Head of Operations at CMA CGM Asia and Chief Operations Officer at APL further underscore the importance of safety. Entrepreneurs took the limelight in Technology, where the winners of the Smart Port Challenge 2019 were featured. This edition of Singapore Nautilus looks at the issue of gender diversity in Maritime Singapore and the important role that women play. Kicking off on April 6, the annual Singapore Maritime Week (SMW) saw nine exciting days of industry events, networking receptions and public outreach activities attended by more than 50,000 participants from over 30 countries. This issue of SIngapore Nautilus spotlights key developments within the bunkering industry. As the world's top bunkering port, Singapore has always taken the lead in improving standards within the industry.
