McLaren’s latest sports car is the brand’s bold move to increase sales, but does it have the bite to back up its bark?
McLaren is certainly no stranger to the super car fraternity. Given its active participation in the Ivy League, the group draws a lot of its experience from the prestigious form of high stakes, open cockpit racing of Formula 1 and puts that all into its latest road-going cars, each carrying the traits of its Formula 1 cars, such as the carbon monocoque cell construction that come as standard. Looking to further diversify its products in a saturated performance car market, McLaren has gone a step further and developed the Sports Car Series. Developed to deliver stunning performance for both road and track, the Sports Car Series is skewed towards an everyday driving experience that McLaren owners can get to enjoy without the overly track-oriented performance of its Super Car Series.
This Sports Car Series is duly represented by the 570S. Dubbed as the ‘Baby McLaren’, the 570S is a gem that combines all that sporty McLaren DNA with efficiency and the drivability for the daily road. Designed in the wind tunnel by its race engineers, the McLaren 570S wears the same suit of racing aura design as with its seniors, the 650S, 675LT and even the P1. The McLaren ‘Swoosh’ trademark is clearly reflected on its headlights and tail lamps, making its distinction from the aging MP4-12C’s rear.
