Lovebirds slip away for a down-home secret ceremony

America's rom-com sweetheart Meg Ryan secretly married her singer soulmate John Mellencamp in a nofrills, hush-hush sudden ceremony, pals say.

GLOBE has learned only about a dozen guests — mostly family and close friends — gathered at the Jack & Diane rocker’s Bloomington, Ind., spread, where Meg, 57, and John, 67, were hitched in a surprise elopement.

“It was put together rather suddenly, but it was beautiful nevertheless,” dishes an insider. “Meg wore a comfy and loose dress she bought off the rack and her favorite Doc Martens, and John wore a suit, no tie and cowboy boots.

“It was all very informal. Meg’s son, Jack, was there and some of John’s kids made it, too.”
