Gerard Benderoth, once one of the strongest men in America, committed his shocking suicide after being linked to a cop pal accused of killing four men in a drug deal gone horrifically bad!

FBI agents had plotted to pick up Benderoth, a married father of four, and arrest him for ties to the murder and drug conspiracy case.

But when the beefy ex-cop saw lights whirling in his rearview mirror while driving through Haverstraw, N.Y., he stopped his SUV on a road near a church and school.

Without waiting to be questioned, he pulled out a gun and shot himself in the head.
