How do you flirt with culture, creativity and crazy people, all at once? Designer SALONI LODHA says she knows how. So, I paint my nails, pack some pristine whites and head to her fiesta—Holi Saloni—in Rajasthan to find out how.
Imagine an 18th-century Raas Devigarh nestled in the Aravalli Hills turning into a ‘live ramp’ for a fashion extravaganza that lasts three whole days. That’s exactly what happened at Holi Saloni, a celebration of 10 years of Saloni, the label, that makes Holi, the festival of colours, the very fulcrum upon which the designer’s fashion, vision, aesthetic and hospitality is based. What this means is, designer Saloni Lodha knows how to throw a mean party. “Holi is in my blood. I grew up in Rajasthan, where exuberant colours are worn to balance the arid desert landscape. Holi Saloni is a tribute to the land I come from,” said Lodha. We get her tips.
What’s your party canvas?
The theme of Holi gave Lodha the most kaleidoscopic canvas to play with. As 150-odd guests arrived, they were greeted by a colossal laurel fig tree draped in rainbow-hued ribbons, an image that made the moment lyrical (and one of the most Instagrammed locations of the event). The set designer was the effervescent New York based, Austrian-born Julia Wagner, who has done prolific work with Italian Vogue, W Magazine, Vogue Hommes, and many more. “Here’s the best way to win people—bring the best talents together to create a united vision,” Lodha explained.
