Fearless, fabulous and not Phryne Fisher – there’s a new detective in town in Channel Seven’s Ms Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries.

Peregrine Fisher (Geraldine Hakewill) may be inexperienced, but this aspiring investigator is determined to follow in the footsteps of her Aunt Phryne (Essie Davis).

And like her feminist icon aunt, Peregrine is a trailblazer – and something of a rebel.

“She doesn’t play by the rules of the period,” Geraldine, 31, tells New Idea of her character, Peregrine. “I love that about her!”

Audiences will know Geraldine from her breakthrough role in action series, Wanted. Here, she is front and centre in the first of four Ms Fisher telemovies. Set in 1964, more than 30 years after its popular predecessor, Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, the new series begins with a wayward Peregrine being sacked from her job as a hairdresser after skipping off for a rendezvous with her boyfriend.
