The latest crop of new releases from Thomas Gunn Miniatures will appeal to a broad range of hobbyists with an interest in 1/30 scale historical figures and aircraft. The first item is a German 7.5cm gun (ref: Acc Pack 059A). The set depicts a Leichtes Infanteriegeschütz 18 field gun, a highly dependable ‘workhorse’ for German infantry units from its introduction in 1932 through to the end of World War II. Chambered for a low velocity 7.5cm round, it was one of the standard infantry artillery weapons of the German army. Although superseded by more powerful artillery as the war progressed, the easy handling and maneuverability of this versatile weapon made it popular with infantry units who appreciated its rugged construction and reliability. With a muzzle velocity of less than 700 feet per second, the Leichtes Infanteriegeschütz 18 was not much use against armored targets. However, it could lob high explosive rounds more than 3,800 yards, so was very useful in engaging defensive positions or large infantry formations on the move.
