6 walks for DOG OWNERS

Cairngorm

Highlands

Scotland is a ripe old country for dog walking, with its beguiling, wild moors, undulating valleys and gorgeous lochs and lakes. But for a challenge, try bagging a munro with the dog in tow. ‘Munro bagging’ is the act of climbing peaks that are over 3,000 feet, and Scotland has plenty. We love Cairngorm – a ski centre in winter and a hiker’s paradise in spring and summer. A good path leads all the way to the peak from the visitor centre, and the hike to the top and back can be done in around three hours. cairngormmountain.co.uk

The Lady Hill Trail

Cannock Chase AONB, Staffordshire

It might be Britain’s smallest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, but Cannock Chase is still just as spectacular as the big, blockbuster landscapes across Britain. There are all manner of footpaths for walkers, but the best for dog owners is the Lady Hill Trail. This easy walk is a circular mile suitable for wheelchairs and buggies, and it even has a Dog Activity Challenge section to test the pup’s fetching, weaving and jumping abilities. For a longer stroll, try the 2.5-mile Fairoak Trail, which has pools for the pooch to jump in on a hot day. forestryengland.uk/cannock-chase-forest
