Grey Go-Away-Bird

Early mornings, before the sun peeks over the horizon, nature breaks out in an orchestra of bird song to announce the break of a new dawn. Birds try to outperform each other with their cheerful song and you can hear them all over our country. Have you ever tried to link the song with the bird?

One of the birds who has a distinctive sound is the grey go-away-bird, or grey lourie (Corythaixoides concolor), also known as kwêvoël in Afrikaans – a name that actually describes the sound the bird makes. This bird warns other animals of predators and hunters. See if you can spot him in your garden.

What do they look like?
