Our latest Equilibrium Products Rising Star is Robyn Caterall, who has a passionate for the art of riding side-saddle.
Robyn Caterall lives in Co Armagh, Northern Ireland. “I compete in side-saddle competitions across the UK and Ireland, and aim to qualify for Horse of the Year Show,” says Robyn. “With my Arab mare I do endurance.”
Robyn rides three horses. Carnsdale Irish Times (Murphy) is an eight-year-old bay Irish Draught X Thoroughbred gelding. She has competed him side-saddle for two years. In 2016 they were supreme hunter and ladies’ sidesaddle champions at Balmoral Show and won the show hunter pony championship at Dublin Horse Show. In 2017 they won the intermediate side-saddle championship at Dublin.
“Murphy was bred by Brendan Murphy and produced in England by Shelly Argyle and Danielle Heath,” Robyn reveals. “In 2016 I received a call from Murphy’s owner Michael Lewis, asking me to produce him for side-saddle.
“Murphy is quirky and it took a lot of time and effort to get him ready for Balmoral Show in 2016. He really pulled it out of the bag to win the supreme hunter title and the ladies hunter side-saddle championship.
“He keeps us on our toes and never runs out of energy. I want to compete him sidesaddle in the intermediate working hunter pony class at Dublin Horse Show next year.”
Arctic Eclipse (Mr Levi) is a horse Robyn describes as “the main man in my life”.
“Mr Levi has no breeding record but he definitely has Draught blood in him,” says Robyn. “He’s such a genuine and honest horse and has done many disciplines, including side-saddle, hunting, showing, eventing, dressage and hunter trials. We started side saddle six years ago and haven’t looked back.
“Together we have won various classes at the National Side Saddle Show and have been the winners of the performance points trophy for four years running.
