Built in 1988 as a RHD 14” syncro Panel Van finished in Pastel White, it was converted from new into a high top camper by Classic Designs, based in Aldermaston. Only around 2000 RHD syncros were actually produced in total worldwide, so a UK RHD model is quite a rare thing to find.
Will Newman and about to be wife Sam loved campers and 4WD vehicles, but had never really thought about owning something that combined both worlds until they spotted this syncro for sale locally; they were immediately smitten, despite it being a little “rough around the edges.” The problem was all their funds were going into their forthcoming wedding – but with an interest free loan from Sam’s parents plus monies gifted as wedding presents from friends and family, the dream became reality, and so in 2011 they became proud new owners of the vehicle. Will says, “Friends were always joking that one owns the wiper blades, another owns wing mirrors, etc and that it was part of our family, we even had a 25th birthday party for it as a bit of a joke!” Over the next seven years the camper took them on many holidays in the UK and France; with the arrival of their daughter in 2014 they took her on her first holiday in the camper (age just four months) to Mortehoe in Devon, which set the pattern for many more good times to come, and Will tells us, “In her young life she has had so much fun in our camper and we are so happy that she shares our love for our syncro!”

Lance & Lisa Beaver tell the story of their...‘Old School' Westfalia Bay
The history of our bus is varied. I heard that it used to belong to a soccer player who lived in it for a while, and a tale of a cross country trip that was taken in it. Since we’ve owned it, we have been to numerous car shows with our car club Kahiko Kula and enjoy that immensely, but taking it camping is our joy.
Messing About in Boats
“Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing — absolutely nothing — half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.”

We’d wanted a splitscreen bus for years. And first got the bug, after hiring one for a holiday in Cornwall in 2009.
