HELENA BAILEY 'JUST THINKING ABOUT MIKE MAKES ME SMILE'

Helena Bailey bursts into an affectionate laugh when talking about her late husband, legendary ABC weatherman Mike Bailey, who passed away a year ago this June.

“Not a day goes by when I don’t think Mike is going to walk through our front door, his arms laden with 100 rolls of toilet paper or whatever was on special at the shops that day,” the honey-voiced Romper Room queen tells New Idea warmly.

“Mike was the kindest man … such integrity, so knowledgeable, generous to a fault and so thoughtful.

He was my best friend, and we were each other’s soul mates.

“But, he did love a bargain and he had an endearing habit of stockpiling things, be it tubes of toothpaste, bottles of shampoo, Tim Tams or loo rolls. Or he’d drive halfway across Sydney because he could save a dollar on a kilo of chicken breasts.

“He was wonderfully quirky like that, all of which only makes me miss him even more.”

GOLDEN COUPLE

A much-loved TV and radio personality of over 50 years, Mike passed away on June 20, 2021 after suffering a stroke at the couple’s Sydney home. He was only 71.
