Shergold Masquerader SM-04 With Dave Burrluck
With two guitars, keys, bass and vocals all contributing to rehearsal, it’s a huge – but musical – racket dominated by the band leader’s thick Les Paul tone, which seems to fill up every available space aided by some old-sounding Hammond keys. Our singer is struggling to be heard and, frankly, so am I. We all turn down, sort out the vocal level and begin to thrash out the arrangements.
My modded Masquerader is a dream. Feel, weight, sound? Tick, tick, tick. I’m using it, primarily, in single-coil mode, with the Catswhisker S-Bucker at the neck and the Seymour Duncan SH-16 59/Custom hybrid at the bridge. For the couple of solos I have it’s easy to push down the coil-split push/pull switch on the tone control to voice the full ’buckers, and/or kick in a boost.
