Sue Nicholls is best known as hairdresser Audrey Roberts on Coronation Street.
Warm and witty, the 75-year-old actress this year celebrates an impressive 40 years on the cobbles, and she even recently received an Outstanding Achievement honor at the British Soap Awards.
She has featured in a host of dramatic storylines – from flings with countless unreliable men, to a sensible marriage with shopkeeper Alf Roberts and her romance with charming conman Lewis Archer, but she has no plans to call it a day, especially as she actually prefers the imaginary world of Weatherfield to the real hi-tech world outside!
‘I like to be here at work. I can cope with the Coronation Street world – people being shot and attacked and God knows what, but the real world leaves me cold. I’m hopeless and I’ve got worse!’ she laughs.
‘That’s the thing about being in my 70s – I find everything about the real world difficult. I can just about text, but I can’t do all the other stuff and I’m not that bothered about learning. I don’t mind that I’m not on email and not posing for selfies on my phone. I once tried to take a selfie and I got my knees! I don’t know how to do it, but it doesn’t worry me.’
