Had you told Chris Peet, 68, back in 2015 that by 2020 she’d be blissfully in love – and a musician to boot – she’d have laughed in your face.
Life has changed beyond recognition for her since she met her partner, Frank Woods, 61, in November 2018. And against all odds, it came from a few clicks of a mouse.
‘I got divorced in 2012, and at first I was more than happy being on my own,’ Chris says. ‘I wanted to have some time for myself.’
But after three years as a single woman, Chris was approached by her daughters, Katy, then 27, and Emma, 25.
‘They suggested it was time to put myself back out there and that the best way to do that was with an online dating profile,’ Chris says.
Even though Chris had worked in IT for years, she’d never set up any social media accounts, so an online dating profile was completely new to her.
‘I was reluctant at first, but the more I thought about it, the more I realised my girls were right,’ Chris says.
‘With my circle of friends being close-knit and very local, I never really had the chance to meet someone new. It’s not like I was out in bars every night, either!’ she laughs.
Chris decided to take the plunge and signed up to online dating website Plenty of Fish.
‘Once I’d got going, I found creating a profile was quite simple. I uploaded a picture of myself, and made sure not to include any personal details that I didn’t want out there on the internet.’
For a few years, Chris chatted with several potential suitors and even went on dates.
