How did you get into running a fashion business?
I started by selling women’s clothes, actually. And I did this for more than ten years. The reason why I did this was because I felt the women’s market was easier to penetrate than the men’s market. But as I am a person who enjoys fashion myself, I finally ventured into men’s fashion and started Asal Lelaki.
Did starting with women’s fashion help you transition into running Asal Lelaki?
Definitely! Not only did we have a ready base of customers to reach out to, we’ve also found the synergy in combining men’s and women’s clothing in our brick-and-mortar shops. So if our customers come with their partners, at least their other half has something to browse while they wait.
