New BBC boss in talks to broadcast matches for free | Tartan Army set to enjoy same coverage as England fans

FOOTBALL fans could be in for a TV treat after BBC Scotland's new chief announced she is in talks to have international matches aired for free.

While England games are broadcast on terrestrial telly, the Tartan Army are left out of pocket as they watch Steve Clarke's men on subscription channels.

But Hayley Robertson, the Beeb's director north of the Border, revealed she would "love" for the national broadcaster to screen Scotland matches.

She said: "Bringing the country together is really important to me."

RENEWED HOPE FOR FREE-TO-AIR MATCHES

BBC chiefs are in talks to make Scotland international matches free to watch on TV.

Hayley Valentine, BBC Scotland's new director, said she would "love" for the games to be shown on terrestrial TV and that "there are live discussions going on".

But she warned, "these things are not cheap".
