ANDY MURRAY has revealed he needed surgery to stop the dangerous growth of a "pretty decent sized cyst" on his spinal cord and it would have been a "risk" to play Wimbledon without going under the knife.
And after a career of injuries, operations and heartbreak, the philosophical Scot reflected his battered body might only allow him to say goodbye in the doubles with his brother Jamie.
He said: "Maybe this is just how it was meant to happen for me." Murray, with a metal hip since 2019, ruptured ankle ligaments in Miami in March but battled to fitness.
He then limped painfully out of the cinch Championships last week and said he had been suffering "neural pain" in his lower back which caused a loss of "power" and "co-ordination" in his right leg.
It looked bad - and it was. Murray revealed: "When I had the injury at Queen's, I was told I had to have the surgery immediately.
