Eamonn Holmes and Fern Britton have both had their well-documented issues with Phillip Schofield. So when they recently revealed that they’d had a catch-up, fans were quick to guess what the former This Morning hosts were talking about.
Fern tweeted, ‘Unexpected calls from old mates are so lovely. Just had the loveliest catch up with @EamonnHolmes. I think we have known each other since the 80s when we were babies. Shooting the breeze.’
‘Bet you’re both cackling over Phillip,’ one fan replied, while another said, ‘Would love to have been a fly on the wall.’
So could Eamonn and Fern be feeling a little bit smug about Phil’s fall from grace?
Long-standing feuds
Eamonn first publicly criticised Phillip in 2022, after his wife Ruth Langsford was reported to have filed a complaint against Phil in 2019 after he cut off her preview of Loose Women. Of the incident Eamonn said, ‘Phillip is renowned for snubbing people. He’s very passive-aggressive. It’s up to Ruth to say how she felt, but I was feeling hurt for her.’
Elsewhere, before Phillip announced his departure, Fern, who co-hosted This Morning with Phillip from 2002 to 2009, claimed, ‘It wouldn’t amaze me if he stepped down. It’s an arduous job at any age.’ She failed to make any mention of Phil’s exit, though she recently posted a tweet about ‘tears rolling down my face’ over the Ted Lasso finale.
