After almost 10 years of hosting together, it’s hard to imagine Strictly Come Dancing without Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman. But it looks like soon we might have no choice, as Claudia has admitted that her eldest son, Jake, 20, once begged her to quit her role on the hit BBC show.
‘He said to me, “Mum, you have got to stop doing Strictly, it’s so embarrassing,”’ Claudia revealed.
Considering the pair have declared in the past that they will ‘leave together’ – could 2023 be the last year we see our favourite duo at the helm?
Joint pact
Tess and Claudia have been hosting Strictly Come Dancing together since Claudia took over from the late Bruce Forsyth in 2014. And the pair’s friendship extends off-screen, too. So much so that Claudia – who hosted the Sunday results show with Tess before joining the main show – has confessed that she and Tess have a pact that if one of them quits, so does the other. ‘When one of us is done, we go together. So she’s not allowed to leave,’ Claudia previously said. She later added of the agreement, ‘Tess and I will leave at the same time. We’ve made that pact over pizza. We’ll go together, whenever they’re done with us.’ While Tess has said, ‘How could I ever stand there without her? I would miss her terribly.’
