Now residing in Northern Ireland is BAB 661M, a 1974 Atkinson Borderer now with W & J Chambers Concrete Products, and finished in their livery.
As many will recall, this lorry has been in preservation for many years and worn a number of different coats in that time. In fact, long-term CVC readers may well remember the Borderer when it wore the blue livery of Steve Woods of Yaxley, near Peterborough, and featured on a promotional free-gift postcard that was issued with the magazine seventeen years ago, in 1999.
Now, though, it runs with a powder cement tanker as trailer. The Heart of Wales was only its second appearance – and first road run - in this guise. First shown one week previous at the Great Dorset Steam Fair, after finishing the HOW, the Borderer went back ‘home’ across the Irish Sea.
