Shine On This Winter
THE SECRET of good skin lies in the right kind of care. And, who better to give us some winter care tips than beauty expert, Shahnaz Husain? Seasonal changes affect the skin, says. In winter, due to lack of humidity, the skin loses moisture to the atmosphere. Also, the air is heavy in winter and pollutants tend to hang low. All this affects the look of the skin, which becomes dry, dull, taut and uncomfortable, especially after washing with soap and water. It begins to flake, with rough, chapped areas developing easily. Normal to dry skin can become sensitive, with dry, red patches. If the skin is oily and prone to pimples, there may be superficial dryness with a lack of moisture in the outermost layer. So, come winter, you need to adjust your daily routine.

Of Myth and Truth
One of the oldest rivalries society has witnessed is the feud between myth and truth. An ongoing one since decades, myth and truth concurrently go as nemesis. While the truth wants to contest myth with an objective to douse the core of its existence, the latter wants to retain its predominance by counter-questioning the former of its subjectivity, universality and the interpretation of its very nature. Their rivalry is akin to the generation gap, never seeing eye to eye; a hot debate between the familiar and the unknown where each acts as a corrosive force for one other. Writer Ashok Banker analyses this ‘epic’ battle of proportions in the territory of mythological writing

DR NANDITA Palshetkar, leading gynaecolgist attached to Lilavati, Bhatia and DY Patil Hospitals in Mumbai and The Fortis Group Of Hospitals, Delhi, talks about the problem of endometriosis that affects several women. The word endometriosis means a problem with the lining of the uterus. Normally, every month, when you have your period, the lining comes out in your menstrual flow. In women with this problem, tissue that looks and acts like the lining of the uterus grows outside of the uterus in other areas, like on or under the ovaries, behind the uterus, on the tissues that hold the uterus in place or on the bowels or bladder. When you have your period, this tissue swells and bleeds, just like the lining of your uterus. This is often painful, and scar tissue can form in your pelvic area.
