The Sam Willo ws singer works out because “I really love to eat”. Yes, The Yoga Cofounder’s fad diet days are definitely over.
8 DAYS: What’s your workout regimen like?
SANDRA RILEY TANG: I teach about four yoga classes a week. In the morning, I do some stretching exercises to warm up my body. I picked up Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) about a year ago, so I usually go for training before I go for lunch. I alternate between working out with weights at the gym and BJJ. When I’m free, I do a lot of self-practice like yoga stretches and handstands.
You travel a lot with The Sam Willows (above). The temptation to skip a workout is stronger when you’re overseas, right?
It’s hard to exercise when I’m travelling, but I believe in having lulls and peak periods. If you constantly tell yourself that you have to work out even when travelling, and you don’t find time to do so, you start to stress out and it gets very unhealthy. When I go overseas, I want to [fully] experience [the place as a traveller]. If I want to eat, I just eat! If there’s some good food that looks like it could be more than 1,000 calories, I’d eat it anyway. I don’t restrict myself too much when it comes to food ’cos you’re not going to grow fat in one day. Travelling makes me feel very lethargic and there are times when I don’t want to do anything at all. But if I wake up earlier in the morning, I’d do yoga or some sit-ups and push-ups just to get my blood flowing. Sometimes, if there’s a gym around, I’d go work out. We were just in Sydney recently and there was a BJJ gym there, so I went there to train.
