Space Travel is about to get more exciting. Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence, two actors already in Hollywood’s Stratosphere, take off this week for the Sci-Fi Romance Passengers.
Opening this week, the sci-fi adventure Passengers directed by Mortem Tyldum (The Imitation Game) is set on board a spacecraft transporting 5,259 hibernating humans to a distant colony planet. Two passengers awake 90 years early along the 120-year voyage when their sleep chambers malfunction: Aurora Lane is a journalist from New York City; Jim Preston is a mechanical engineer from Denver, Colorado. Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt co-star. Both are pros at the fantasy genre, Lawrence, 26, having saved humanity in The Hunger Games blockbuster franchise, and Pratt, 37, being Star-Lord of Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy. Their characters discover the ship is in grave danger just as they are falling in love, stranded alone in the galaxy, and in interviews below Pratt and Lawrence talk about the challenges of balancing romance and action thrills amid zero gravity.
CHRIS PRATT is Jim Preston
Passengers had been creating quite a buzz. What was your reaction when you first read the script?
CHRIS PRATT: When I read the script I couldn’t believe I would be given an opportunity to be in this movie. Sometimes you read a script and it just grabs hold of you. I was never going to let anyone else play Jim. It was mine. The minute I read it I wanted it.
Why did it grab you in that way?
