When we meet Shweta Bachchan Nanda for the interview, she’s dressed in a classic black tee and tights, offsetting the monotone with white sneakers. An emerald pagoda pendant hangs on a delicate gold chain around her neck (designed by her friend Hanut Singh) and her subtle gold watch makes a statement around a bunch of evil eye bracelets she wears around her wrist. “It’s my dad’s old watch, which I got custom-made. Actually, I swipe a lot of his old watches,” says Shweta. Her dad is a fashion maverick – and Shweta and her brother, Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan often raid his collections. From jackets to watches and sunglasses, they have ample to choose from. “My dad hates parting with his things,” she laughs, adding, “But, once in a while, he will call my brother and I and now his grandchildren and say ‘take what you like.’ And we have a field day in his closet. He has a very organised one! Everything is kept very carefully and very well-coordinated,” she elaborates.

Shweta is an acorn off the oak tree when it comes to organisation. She takes pictures, maintaining an inventory of her possessions so she knows exactly where to find them when she’s looking for something in particular. “My closet is organised. Everything is in its place – the colours, dresses and sarees are all kept separately. They are all catalogued,” she says. But that’s not all that’s travelled down her impeccable genes, which have fame embedded all over them for over two generations.
