As Anna goes on the run this week, Debbie Rush reveals why she wants her character to expose Phelan’s crimes before her departure next year…

It’s hard to write the words ‘Anna Windass’ without putting ‘poor’ before them. After all, there aren’t many Corrie characters who have had such a rough ride in recent years as the put-upon café worker and mum of two.
Blackmailed into having sex with Pat Phelan, scarred for life thanks to David Platt, and now framed by Phelan for young Seb Franklin’s accident, it’s been one ordeal after another. And that’s on top of all the relationship dramas and money worries with which she’s been beset.
But is Anna about to show everyone what she’s made of? This week, she’s taken to hospital after collapsing in prison, where she’s been held on remand for GBH. But when the officer, who’s supposedly guarding her leaves the room for a few minutes, she grabs the chance to escape.
Anna’s mission? To prove her innocence, and make sure that twisted builder Pat Phelan gets his just desserts.
