In 1998, 16-year-old Beyoncé Knowles and her Destiny’s Child bandmates donned matching color-blocked Tommy Hilfiger bandeaus for an NYC event. Twenty years later, Hil figer—the reigning designer of the ’90s hiphop set—is 7,000 miles away in Shanghai, still thinking about the pop phenom and her vocals. “There’s a very intense art and music scene in Shanghai,” says the designer, who showed his fall collection last month at the city’s Port Cruise Terminal. “They’re fanatical about Chinese pop groups, but also Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Cardi B.”
