Butterfly Watch: Dark green fritillary

EARLIER this summer we stayed on a coastal farm campsite in North Devon where the surrounding fields were being cultivated as beautiful and richly diverse hay meadows.

Knapweeds and thistles were growing and flowering among the varied grasses and there was an abundance of birdlife (the larks never seemed to stop singing) and insect life.
