Understanding Your Duty

We think that people will become better; that the world will change. They say in Hindi, "Asha Amar Hai." It To accept the strong laws of Nature and not wish against Nature would be the sensible thing. The final outcome is that you do your job.

That is important, that is what you are meant for. You have been given a specific direction - you are a father, a son, a husband, or anything else. That is your focus and so put all your energy and effort in it and see that you excel. The other thinking, i.e., how the world should carry on and how you wish it would be different, or how things should happen after you have done your bit, is, I think, wrong. Unfortunately, we live like this, all the time wishing, wanting, desiring. Partly, whatever is our unhappiness, is the result of this thinking. If you accept life as it goes, then there will be no unhappiness. On the contrary, there is a certain amount of joy. Children watching a piece of wood being carried away by the river simply enjoy seeing it; they do not wish that it should not go further. These are things that are natural.
