Is it as easy as bringing currently cool colours straight into your home? Here, the experts share their tips on integrating some of these on-trend colours, as well as timeless options, into your interior spaces.
Are there specific colours that evoke emotions that you would recommend using in certain ways?
“For every space in the home, there are colours that will work best for your needs,” says Tracey Bright, Brosa interior designer. “Generally speaking, blue and green help us to relax. They work well in areas where you want to unwind, such as the bedroom or bathroom. Purple helps us get creative in our home office, yellow builds our appetite in the kitchen, while orange helps us digest in the dining room. Neutral colours such as grey allow us to focus on one task at a time as they are detached from emotion. These are helpful for multipurpose areas such as the living room.”
How should homeowners go about selecting colours for their interiors?
“Often, homeowners feel overwhelmed when selecting colours for their home, especially given most Australians have open-plan living spaces, or a white or neutral interior,” says Andrea Lucena-Orr, Dulux colour planning and communications expert. “Introducing colour in a small way, in a bedroom or study, can help you to start building a colour scheme in the home.
“Also, a darker colour is often useful in a home theatre or TV area of the home — this is an easy way to incorporate colour. Once you feel the impact of colour, from the mood of the space and the emotional benefit, it will help encourage you to continue introducing more colour and establishing a colour flow throughout the home.
