THE INSTOMI SIDEBOARD AND UMTHI HANGING LAMP BY MEYER VON WIELLIGH

The Instomi Sideboard is inspired by the stories that the trees tell through the year with the rings on the end grain blocks. Each tree has a different story and different conditions that it grows in and you can tell this by looking at the year rings, giving each piece a unique character. The simple yet beautiful lines of a tree and the way the branches join into each other are the inspiration behind the Umthi Hanging Lamp.

The Ardmore artists have brought striking new ceramic designs to life during lockdown. Some pieces explore themes of equilibrium and mutual cooperation in nature through interlocking animal forms. Curled up in their instinctive form of lockdown, the large pangolin sculptures are powerful symbols of the pandemic and our response to it, facing the uncertainty of whether to emerge or withdraw.
