Exciting as it may be, renovations of any kind can be stressful, especially if you have not planned properly or factored possible setbacks into your initial plans. However, by following the advice offered by our industry experts, you can expect a quality experience from start to finish - this is especially true for kitchen renovations, no matter the requirements or size.
PRIORITISE AND PLAN
The most important step in a successful kitchen renovation is planning and prioritising your needs and budget. Kaylee Sterling, marketing manager at STERLINGS, advises that the best place to start is creating a budget and defining your goals. "Decide what you want to prioritise within your kitchen space. Keep in mind that kitchen functionality is optimised when you invest in a quality kitchen that is crafted to suit your lifestyle."
In terms of the budget, Jenny Buys from twelve kitchens advises that it is helpful to have a realistic budget in mind because this determines the direction of the design and the overall extent of the renovation. "This also ensures that we can then provide designs that exceed expectations while still staying within a reasonable budget.
Other practical elements to consider during the planning phase, according to Philip Richards, brand director of blu_line, include which walls to remove, which windows to change or adjust, and essentially what needs to be done to ensure the kitchen becomes the anchor for the rest of the home. "For us, it's about the kitchen making an architectural statement. So the first step is to ensure the right environment to achieve this."
