Society needs to stop pressurising people about having children.
Last month, I learnt that there is no polite way to decline an offer to hold a baby. It seemed to be considered rude no matter how I put it. then again, maybe it was the look of horror on my face or that I used the pronoun “it” (as a way to sidestep getting the gender wrong, I swear). But the parents took offence, tutting and throwing shade.
New parents, I understand your joy. You’ve committed time between the sheets, held each other for nine months through stress and pain (and no sex), then witnessed the miracle of birth – it’s a special time. I get it and I am happy for you.
