“IN MUSIC, SO MUCH HAPPENS that we cannot see.” Is that not a profoundly beautiful truth?

As sumptuously danceable as it is resplendently powerful fodder for reflection and fuel for the work necessitated by journeys inwards, Foster The People’s music stands as a realisation of a gold standard in the pop music genre with an emotionally magnanimous heart. American-born Mark Foster is proof that zeitgeist-gripping hits and impassioned experiments can live in the same home, harmoniously and seamlessly. A conscious left-turn in his band’s fourth album Paradise State of Mind, released last year, confirms his mettle as a master craftsman yet again.

It is also a deeply resounding appeal to humankind that things will get better.

I attended your show here in 2012. Is there anything that stands out in your memory of Singapore?

The food. I get excited to eat whenever I come to Singapore. I also remember how much variety there is at the night market food stalls. I was also quite shocked at the number of expats in some places. After our last show here, I went to an underground dance club and met a whole lot of Europeans and Americans. They all seemed to be businessmen, which was kind of wild to me.

You’ve been DJing a lot more lately. Is it entirely different from singing and playing traditional instruments live?
