The Silken Voice Of Shaan
SOCIETY|March 2016

He’s made hearts melt and lovers reunite owing to his charming voice. Shaan has caused millions to slip into reveries, and now he talks to us about his new radio show, Big Radio Reel, among other things such as the changing dynamics of the music industry.

The Silken Voice Of Shaan

Probably everyone who was a youngster in the late ’90s remembers day dreaming about their perfect college love story with the songs Woh Pehli Baar and Musu Musu Haasi playing in the background. And, they also remember post break up phases with Bhool Jaa and Tanha Dil on repeat. Ever since, countless tracks in Shaan’s youthful voice have won millions of hearts. While he may have collaborated with Blue for One Love, one love is definitely not all he needs in reality. With a thirst to keep trying new things, the singer has dabbled in acting, composing and now, most recently, radio jockeying.

Yes, Shaan will soon be heard hosting a radio show. The trend of celebrities hosting radio shows has been catching on, though Shaan is all set to do something different and heart-warming, as always. To be aired on 92.7 Big FM, the show is called Big Radio Reel. “What we do on this show is that on the day of the birthdays of some of the great stalwarts of Indian music, Bollywood music and films, we do a special show dedicated to their lives, and their contribution towards their art form,” he says excitedly. The show will be airing only on the birthdays of these stars between 7 and 9 am. He adds, “It comes on the day of their birthdays, so it feels more personal, and you kind of celebrate their birthday with emotion.” About the programme, he further says, “It marks their journey, the way they grew up in, their influences, how they came to the city of Mumbai, if at all, everything—all the way up to what they are today in their life.” There’s a whole team that actually works on the script and everything. “All I try to do is make it sound like I’m not reading it from somewhere and that I’m saying it. But, there’s enough research done thoroughly on it. It’s not like you know, jo dil mein aaya keh do (Say what you feel like)!” he laughs.
