"Amalki Ekadashi" comes along in early March and it is a custom to consume Amla juice on this day. Ripe Amla (Indian gooseberry) has an astringent taste and helps eliminate Kapha accumulated over the cold season that becomes active in the spring. The juice cleanse thus helps improve digestion&nbsp;that was being hampered by Kapha. Astringent foods other than Amla, also recommended by Charak during this season are gram, dates and raw mango (in less quantity). These offer similar benefits with digestion, elimination and against diseases due to poor digestion. Additional seasonal suggestions from Ayurveda include exercises, dry massage of the body, mouth gargle and use of honey.
During "Holi", dry ingredients like dates, popped Jowar and raw mango are offered to the fire. The fire represents the digestive fire and foods are those to be consumed for the month. Moving around the fire warms up the entire body serving the purpose of purification.

(Makes for two. Time: 10 minutes)
Ingredients:

<li>1/4 tsp mustard seeds</li>

1 Mix Amla, Chana and buttermilk and blend.
2 Heat the Ghee and add mustard seeds.
3 Once the spluttering of mustard seeds ends, add asafoetida.
4 Add tempering to the above mixture, mix well and serve with rice.
Tender Mango and Dates Chutney 
(Time: 10 minutes) 
Ingredients:
