Hit REFRESH

Every couple of years, your home's interiors - or even a specific room - might feel a bit drab. Perhaps the walls are looking boring and not as fresh as they were before or you're simply tired of that sofa that's lost its shape, and now the whole room needs a makeover. This is when an interior refresh or, as the industry calls it, a facelift, is a must.

Sharing the secrets of their trade, leading local interior designers to reveal how you can freshen up a space with or without a big budget.

CLEAN UP

With a more flexible budget, a grand refresh is the best way to completely transform a room.

It's exactly what's needed to fall in love with your space again, says Olala Interiors' Britta McMeekin. "It's a makeover without doing any major construction. It may involve a change of the surfaces to transform the feel of the space."

But where do you even start? McMeekin recommends you begin with a decluttering session.

"Decide what you would like to keep and what you can donate, keep what you love! This is important for helping you to see what you have left to work with. Budget always comes into play and is a big decider to what extent you can 'refresh"."

PICK A STYLE

Once you've done the big clean-up, Loredana Morton of Loredana Morton Interiors suggests you determine a style. "It's important for homeowners to know their interior style, design preferences, and how they want the space to feel before heading out to the shops!"

If you're unsure, Morton recommends considering which décor styles have made an impression. "For example, maybe it's a luxury hotel you've recently stayed at or a beautiful restaurant you particularly liked. All of this can help to determine your preferred style."
