Décor experts agree that the modern bedroom has become a sanctuary from the chaos of an ever-changing world. “Long gone are the days of seeing a bedroom as merely a place to sleep; it has become a personal extension of those who inhabit it, and the design sphere has followed suit,” says Ruelle Pretorius, interior designer at Carne Interiors.

“People are looking to personalise their sleep journey. As no two sleepers are the same, the industry has had to adapt to a wide range of audiences,” agrees Susan Kemp, design director at bed manufacturer Sloom. “Sloom has designed mattresses and pillows that allow you to select your preferred level of firmness by adjusting the premium foam layers. The mattresses have a split comfort feature, meaning that each side can be adjusted to the desired comfort, while the pillow provides you with the option to add or remove some of the premium memory foam chips for your preferred height and softness.”
