A WOMAN has been found guilty of causing "serious harm" to her baby daughter - who died after ingesting cocaine.Shareen Mains, 36, exposed her 10-month-old to the drug and caused her to ingest it.Greenock Sheriff Court heard how Mains woke up at 4am to feed the baby and went back to sleep.Next morning, on September 8, 2019, she got up to find the baby unresponsive and she couldn't be revived. Tests later showed four baby bottles in the house had traces of cocaine and the child had traces of it in her body.Mains, of Farquhar Road, Port Glasgow, was unanimously convicted by a jury of four charges.Prosecutor Kirstin Brierley recounted the evidence of the baby's father who said she "was perfectly healthy" when he last saw her the day before.Defence lawyer Alistair Sloan had argued that the Crown had not proved beyond all reasonable doubt that the cocaine was in the possession and control of the Mains.But she was found guilty of possessing Class B cannabis, Class C phenazepam and Class A cocaine.She was also found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering or injury and consuming or allowing others to consume controlled drugs while her baby was present and exposing her to drugs, whereby she ingested cocaine.Mains will be sentenced in January.
