TORY MPS have called for Rishi Sunak to get the chop after a mega-poll suggested they could lose almost 200 seats at the general election.

But with the survey predicting a 1997-style wipeout, the nation could be better off if the hapless Prime Minister stays to fight on.

The YouGov survey of 14,000 people indicated Keir Starmer is set to win a 120-seat majority.

It found that the Tories could win just 169 seats, 196 fewer than at the last election.

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt, Defence Secretary Grant Shapps and Commons Leader Penny Mordaunt are among 11 cabinet ministers facing defeat. It also shows the party losing every "red wall" seat Boris Johnson won from Labour in 2019.
