Boffins say their new lab-grown meat substitute tastes just like beef - but admit it doesn't quite cut the mustard when it comes to how it appears.

They have been more focused on its biological make-up than what the pink gelatin-based "hydrogel" looks like.

But the blob represents a major breakthrough in labgrown meat technology.
