A HOCKEY player has had his finger cut off so he can compete at the Olympics.

Matt Dawson, 30, badly broke the ring digit on his right hand after being struck by a stick in training two weeks ago. Recovery from surgery to repair it would have taken months, so he chose to have it amputated from the knuckle, allowing him to compete in his third Olympics.
